Instituto Chileno Suizo de Idiomas y Cultura

We are a language education center that specializes in providing you with the cultural and linguistic tools necessary for intercultural communication at the highest level in social, professional, and global environments. This is achieved in an atmosphere that is creative, stimulating, and productive.

Instituto Chileno Suizo de Idiomas y Cultura is of the leading Spanish schools in Chile which deals with Spanish immersion programs to promote Spanish language.

Our textbooks

ICHIL produces its own textbooks. “¡Ahora Si! Español para Extranjeros” is a series comprised of four textbooks that combine grammar with practical exercises. They are the result of over a decade of experience in teaching Spanish to foreigners.

Teachers

Teachers

TAll of our teachers and lecturers hold university degrees (in Linguistics, Literature, Spanish, Philosophy, Journalism, and Speech Therapy, among others)

Prior to hiring a new teacher, he must sit in on a class and then teach a class at every level, so that we can be satisfied that the students react well to his teaching style. We choose our team based on their capacity for teaching and for creating a pleasant classroom environment that facilitates learning.

Cultural Activities

Cultural Activities

The ICHIL philosophy isn’t merely about imparting a knowledge of Spanish, but also about ensuring that the student’s stay is fun and unforgettable. To achieve this we organize a series of activities that are part of the study program. These include guided tours of the city, museums, Chilean movies and sites that comprise our cultural heritage.

If the students so wish, we can organize excursions, at cost, to places such as: Pablo Neruda’s museum home in Isla Negra, a visit to a winery with a wine tasting, or a visit to Viña del Mar and Valparaíso. During the winter months we organize visits to a ski center so the students can enjoy the snow.

Workshops

Workshops

Every month we offer cultural workshops on (literature): Pablo Neruda, Gabriela Mistral; music: Victor Jara, Violeta Parra, etc.; dance: salsa and cueca (our national dance); traditional Chilean cooking: empanadas, pisco sour. At the end of the course, the students cook, dance, and evaluate the group class.

Housing

For those students who require it, we offer housing in family homes. These families have been working with us for many years and they enjoy hosting foreign students. They all provide a private room, breakfast, and dinner in the evening. They also offer laundry services.

Location

Location

ICHIL is housed in a large, historic, early 20th century house in downtown Santiago in what is known as “Barrio Brasil”, 600 meters from La Moneda, the seat of government.

This neighborhood is very unique; it has a rich cultural life with theaters and cafés giving it a bohemian atmosphere. The large number of universities and institutes of higher education have converted this area into the “Cultural Neighborhood of Santiago”.

Two metro lines (Santa Ana and Los HĂ©roes) and multiple bus lines provide easy access to ICHIL.
